BIRDSEYE MAPLE c1850s REMINGTON GODDARD FRONTIER LONG RIFLE PIONEER Antique
Short, Handy .42 Caliber Half-Stock
Here we present an antique Remington-Goddard Long Rifle, made circa the 1850s. This is a shorter piece overall at 41 ½”, that would have been handy from a horse or wagon or even just walking through the woods. It has a pretty stout octagonal Remington barrel in .42 caliber with a shorter 12 ½” length of pull and a single trigger (as opposed to the double set variety found in many long rifles). Game bird engraved lock. It has both barrel mounted sights and an additional tang-mounted rear peep sight.
The overall condition is very good. Original patina. The action is excellent. The bore is well-rifled and patinated. The stock is solid and made of bird’s eye maple with great figure. The underside of the barrel is marked “REMINGTON”. The lock is marked “GODDARD/WARRANTED”. The barrel has both front and rear sights and the barrel tang has a “lollipop” type of rear peep sight that is elevation adjustable by screwing it down or up. A fantastic rifle!
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 26-1/8 inches.
