Antique SHARPS New Model 1863 .50-70 GOVT U.S. CAVALRY Carbine CIVIL WAR
U.S. CONTRACT w/CARTOUCHE
Here we present an antique U.S. Sharps New Model 1863 Cavalry Carbine, made circa 1863. Over 100,000 Sharps rifles and carbines were purchased and used by the federal government during the American Civil War. In the post-war period a number of these rifles and carbines were converted to .50-70 GOVT as an update.
These carbines were issued to the regular cavalry regiments on the western frontier and remained in service until they were replaced by the Springfield Model 1873 Carbine. They went on to experience some of the most exciting times in American history during the Indian Wars, the settling of the Western Frontier, and the connecting of the coasts with the railroad.
The overall condition is very good. The action is excellent. The bore is in good condition: reflective with strong rifling. The walnut stock shows one good Ordnance inspector cartouche; it shows use and remains solid. The sling ring has been removed.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 22 inches.
Caliber: .50-70 GOVT
Overall condition as seen in photos.
