Antique REVOLUTIONARY WAR Era French CHARLEVILLE M1763/66 FLINTLOCK MUSKET
Main Infantry Arm of the Colonials
Here we present an antique Revolutionary War Era French Charleville Model 1763/66 Flintlock Musket, made circa the 1760s-1770s at the armory at Charleville in France. During the American War of Independence, the French government supplied large quantities of muskets to the Continental army. Several arsenals in France produced muskets but the Charleville Model 1763 was the most common and soon all French muskets were referred to as “Charlevilles”.
Without French assistance, it is very possible, indeed likely, that the United States may well have lost the war. The new functioning government did not have armories yet to domestically produce weapons en masse. The rebels were reliant on what they had before the conflict, what they could pick up off the field of battle, and what they received from the French.
The overall condition is good. This is in its original, unconverted state. Dark, even, original patina throughout. The action is strong. The bore is smooth and patinated. The stock shows use and the forestock on the right side about midway between the front and middle barrel band has some slivering/fraying toward the foremost part of the stock; small chip behind the lock. There are two brass tacks on the right side of the stock. A good and very hard to find example of a Revolutionary War musket used by the patriots!
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 45 inches.
Caliber: .69 Flintlock
