1 of 1,000 SOUTH CAROLINA Marked Antique PALMETTO ARMORY Model 1842 Pistol CONFEDERATE
Rare South Carolina Militia Pistol Made in COLUMBIA, SC!
Here we present an antique Palmetto Armory Model 1842 Percussion Pistol manufactured circa 1852 in Columbia, South Carolina for the South Carolina Militia. They saw continued service all the way through the American Civil War. The M1842 was made for cavalry troops and features sturdy construction with lots of brass for support. This was important during a time when one would expend their shots and still have a fight on their hands. Striking your opponent with the pommel of your gun was quite effective. The ramrod is captive, so that it would not be lost in the heat of battle on top of a horse.
This example has “PALMETTO ARMORY” over a tree on the lock. “COLUMBIA/S.C. 1852” can be read on the tail of the lock. Palmetto proof marks are on the upper left of the barrel at the breech with “Wm. GLAZE & CO.” on the left side of the barrel. These pistols are all assumed to have seen significant Confederate handling in the Civil War and many were lost to attrition.
The overall condition is very good. The action is as strong as ever. The bore is smooth and dark. The stock is solid all around. Here is a wonderful opportunity to own a rare Palmetto Model 1842 pistol!
