1870s Antique REMINGTON New Model “POLICE” Revolver
Cartridge Converted to .38 Rimfire!
Here we present an antique Remington New Model Police Revolver, made circa the mid-to-late 1870s in Ilion, New York. About 18,000 were made and only some converted to handle metallic cartridges. This revolver was designed to be a direct rival to several of Colt’s smaller revolver lines, including their Police and Navy models. This would have been a nice, unobtrusively sized revolver to carry in a holster. With 5 rounds of .38 one could get themselves out of most scrapes. This revolver would have been modified to accept metallic cartridges near the expiration of the Smith & Wesson owned Rollin White Patent, which prevented other companies from using the bored through cylinder until 1869.
The overall condition of this revolver is fine. The nickel finish is about 80% complete. Case colors are excellent on the hammer. The markings are clear and legible. The bore is clear and bright. The walnut grips are very good. The action on this revolver is excellent.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
