Antique EUROPEAN Flintlock HORSE Pistol w DRAGON
18th Century Pistol with Amphiptere Type Dragon
Here we present an antique European Flintlock Horse Pistol, made circa the 18th Century. This pistol was designed as a fighting pistol. It is large and features a 12-3/4 inch barrel with a .60 caliber bore. The design of the pommel is European in style, used as a club when the single shot was expended. The brass hardware and iron lock and barrel of this pistol are engraved throughout with various scroll designs, even a face or two. The most eye-catching part of this pistol is the delicate, almost lacy, sideplate that takes the form of a amphiptere dragon, a type of dragon used in European heraldry that has a serpentine body with wings and usually no limbs. This dragon is seen flying and perhaps even belching flames.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces have a dark patina. The engravings are in good condition. The stock is in great shape for the age. The bore is smooth. The action on this pistol is excellent.
