Antique MILITARY ISSUE 1st Model COLT DRAGOON
Antebellum COLT Horse Pistol in .44, Made in 1849!
Here we present an antique Colt 1st Model Dragoon Revolver, made in 1849 in Hartford, Connecticut. Only 7,000 were produced. Samuel Colt began his career in firearms in the late-1830s but was not at first successful, closing the doors of his Paterson, New Jersey shop in 1843. Several years later, Colt was approached by Texas Ranger Captain Samuel Hamilton Walker to collaborate on a new revolver. This revolver came to be known as the Colt-Walker Dragoon Revolver and was the revolver that really got Samuel Colt off to a good start. Colt continued to adapt the Dragoon design and was able to market these for military purposes as well as to civilians. These revolvers saw extremely hard use before, during, and after the American Civil War.
The overall condition is very good. The iron parts have a light gray patina. The markings are clear. The Texas Ranger & Apache cylinder scene is still somewhat visible on this one. The numbers match. The walnut grips are in very good condition with initials “GWJ” carved into the bottom. The bore is clean with strong rifling. The action is excellent.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 7-1/2 inches.
Overall condition as seen in photos.
