Antique PENNSYLVANIA Full-Stock SMOOTHBORE Musket
With Eagle Shaped Brass Patchbox
Here we present an Antique Pennsylvania Full-Stock Smoothbore “Rifle”, made circa the 1820s. This long arm features a long, fully-octagonal barrel with a smooth bore and rifle sights. Such a weapon would have been used for harvesting game for the table and providing protection for the homestead. This one was originally built as a flintlock and was later updated to the percussion firing system for greater reliability. The Roman nose-style stock features a full-length fore end that goes all the way to the muzzle. The hardware is of brass which includes a large decorative patch box with an eagle motif, butt plate, trigger guard, ramrod tubes, and fore end cap. Bore measures .50 Caliber. There are faint maker’s marks on the top barrel flat with one partially legible word appearing to be “Philadelphia”.
The overall condition is fair to good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. No markings are legible. The bore is dark, smooth, and dusty with age. The stock is in good condition with short cracks from age, use, and environment. The action is strong.
