Antique WINCHESTER 1886 Lever Action in .40-65 WCF
Big Bore Repeating Rifle Manufactured in 1888
Here we present a Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle in .40-65 WCF, made in 1888 in New Haven, Connecticut. The 1886 was a collaboration between John Moses Browning and his brother, Matthew Sandifer Browning, to build a big game rifle to replace the Model 1876. This was Browning’s first repeating rifle design adopted by Winchester. The 1886 remains well known as the hunting rifle of President Teddy Roosevelt. Cartridges were big and powerful to include the smaller 33 WCF to the largest, 50-100, with the most popular caliber being the .45-70 and the 45-90.
This rifle features a 26-inch octagonal barrel in .40-65 WCF.
The overall condition is fine. The original blue finish is 50% with silvered case colors on the receiver. The markings are clear. The walnut stock shows honest use and remains in very good condition. The bore is in great shape, clean with strong rifling. The action is excellent, strong and crisp. Here is a great example of an antique Winchester 1886!
