BRITISH Antique BLISSET of LONDON Cased PEPPERBOX
Gorgeously Engraved English Pepperbox
Here we present an Antique Blissett of London Percussion Pepperbox Revolver, manufactured in London, England circa the 1850s. Unlike much of the competition, which were single shot pistols, this pepperbox gave 6 shots of .36 caliber ball to the shooter through a revolving barrel cluster. John Blissett was an English gunmaker who was at the address inscribed on the barrel from about 1850-1875. This pepperbox revolver has much in common with Ethan Allen’s, an American inventor and gunmaker especially known for his pepperboxes.
The left side of the frame is marked “LONDON”. The right side of the frame is marked “JOHN/BLISSETT”. The barrel is marked “322 HIGH HOLBORN, LONDON”. The custom fitted case features a green felt lining and comes with a screwdriver, oiler, cap tins and a ramrod.
The overall condition is fine. This 175 year old revolver has been beautifully restored. 90% of the blue finish remains. The markings are clear and legible. The grips are in great shape. The bores are clear. The action on this pepperbox is strong. Here is a real beauty complete with a case ready for display!
