BRITISH Antique Single Action PEPPERBOX Revolver
Stately Engraved 6-Shot Pistol
Here we present an antique British Single Action Percussion Pepperbox Revolver, made circa 1830 in England. Pepperbox Revolvers were an improvement over single shot percussion pistols of the day. The pepperbox was the precursor to the revolver as we know it today. Instead of having a single barrel with a revolving cylinder that presented each individual chamber to the breech end of the barrel, the pepperbox’s cylinder included a barrel for each chamber! Though generally much smaller in caliber than their single shot counterparts, they certainly provided more firepower in a small package.
This example is finely engraved on the frame and hammer with some fine touches on at the muzzle of the barrel cluster. There is a silver initial placard mounted into the back of the curvaceous wooden grip. Grip is tightly checkered. The mechanism is single action requiring the hammer to be for each shot. Each chamber is proof marked according to British proofing standards of the time. This is a very nice and somewhat unique example!
The overall condition is very good. The engraving is clear. The steel is dark with age. The wooden grip is in fine condition. The bores are smooth and clean. The action is strong. The timing of the barrel cluster’s revolution is slightly slow.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
