BUFFALO NY Antique “JAMES O ROBSON” Long Rifle
Half-Stock Rifle from the 1850s
Here we present an antique James O. Robson Half-Stock Long Rifle, manufactured in Buffalo, New York circa the 1850s. From all accounts, Robson seems to have been a fantastic gun-maker. He partnered with J.H. Rector for a time, 1850-1853, making percussion sporting rifles, before going out on his own.
The left side of the barrel is marked “J.O. ROBSON BUFFALO/740”. This rifle features decorative escutcheons in the shape of an eagle and a fox.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is smooth and solid with some light repair. The action is strong.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 33-3/4 inches.
Overall condition as seen in photos.
