CIVIL WAR Antique SHARPS New Model 1863 CARBINE
Classic Civil War & Old West Saddle Ring Carbine
Here we present an antique Sharps New Model 1863 Carbine, made circa 1863. Over 100,000 Sharps rifles and carbines were purchased and used by the federal government during the American Civil War, and afterward, the U.S. contracted with Sharps to convert a portion of them at the factory to shoot metallic cartridges. Just over 31,000 firearms were converted in this manner, in several different variants. They went on to experience some of the most exciting times in American history during the Indian Wars, the settling of the West, and the connecting of the coasts with the railroad.
This Sharps Carbine remains in original percussion configuration. The top of the barrel is marked “SHARPS RIFLE/MANUFG. CO/HARTFORD, CONN.” The rear of the barrel is marked “MODEL 1863”. The left side of the frame is marked “C.SHARPS PAT./SEPT. 12, 1846”. The right side of the frame is marked “C. SHARPS PAT. OCT. 5TH 1852/R.S.LAWRENCE PAT./APRIL 12TH, 1859”.
The overall condition is very good. Traces of the original blue finish remain on the top of the barrel while it is strong under the forearm. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match. The stock is in very good shape. The bore is semi-bright with sharp rifling. The action on this carbine is excellent. Here is your chance to own a Civil War Sharps!
