CIVIL WAR Sharps & Hankins 1862 ARMY Carbine
Only 500 Made Circa 1865
Here we present an antique Sharps and Hankins Model 1862 Army Carbine manufactured circa 1865 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Total produced in this variation were 500. Made from 1862-65, the bulk of production including the more numerous Navy Carbine was still only 8,000. The Sharps & Hankins 1862 Army Carbine is one of the scarcest Civil War carbine encountered.
The shape of the carbine is distinctly Sharps and operates a bit differently than other carbines of the era. The trigger guard doubles as a lever, which is opened by pressing a small tab inside the smaller loop of the lever. Opening the lever slides the barrel away from the recoil shield for loading and unloading. It has a great elevating rear sight and brass butt-plate.
This specimen is in very good condition. The barrel bears some of the original finish with a brown patina making up the balance. The markings are clear. The walnut stock is smooth and solid. The bore is in good condition and sharply rifled. The action is strong.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 24 inches.
Caliber: .52 Rimfire
Overall condition as seen in photos.
