LETTERED Antique WINCHESTER 1892 Rifle in .38 WCF
Complete with Cody Firearms Museum Letter
Here we present an antique Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Rifle in .38 WCF, shipped from the factory on September 1, 1897 per the accompanying Cody Firearms Museum archive letter. This is one of the relative few 1892s that is today considered “antique” by the ATF, due to its pre-1899 manufacture date. Another fantastic design from the mind of John Moses Browning, the 1892 was made to replace the venerable and iconic 1873 and featured its pistol caliber chamberings. The result was a trim and light rifle that was an immediate hit and stayed in production for almost 50 years.
Top of the barrel reads “–MANUFACTURED BY THE–/–WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.–” “.38 WCF” is marked over the breech end of the barrel. Tang is marked “MODEL 1892./–WINCHESTER–/PAT. OCT. 14.1884”.
The overall condition is very good. The metal has been refinished and retains 90% of the blue. The markings are clear and legible. The walnut stock shows some light handling marks and is in very good condition. The bore is sharp and shiny. The action is excellent. Here is a very nice Model 1892 Lever Action Rifle with a Letter!
