Scarce CIVIL WAR Antique Colt DRAGOON Revolver
Made in 1860 & Marked “RILEY”
Here we present an antique Colt Third Model Dragoon Percussion Revolver, manufactured in 1860 in Hartford, Connecticut. Only 10,500 of this variant were produced. Colt’s Dragoons experienced some of the harshest conditions the mid-19th century had to offer, and it is amazing that any survived, in any condition. This pistol was designed for use by horse-mounted rifleman, and it is so much pistol that you will want a horse to carry it for you. This pistol weighs in at over 4 pounds. This one would have seen use during the American Civil War and was made just prior.
The bottom of the grip frame is stamped in bold letters with “D.C. RILEY”, probably the name of the user, likely a cavalryman. The top of the barrel reads “ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY”.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces have a dark gray patina with some heavy weathering at the muzzle end of the barrel. The markings are clear and legible. The numbers match. The grips are in good shape. The bore is dark with strong rifling. The action on this revolver is strong.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 7-1/4 inches.
Caliber: .44 Percussion
Overall condition as seen in photos.
