UTICA NY Antique YOUTH Long Rifle by ROGERS & DANA
.38 Caliber Rifle Made Circa the 1840s
Here we present an antique Half-Stock Long Rifle by R. Rogers, made circa the 1840s. This rifle is smaller in stature than the average long rifle. It is relatively short and light and has a 13-1/4 inch length of pull. The bore diameter is a bit over .38 caliber, a good all-around caliber for hunting and use around the homestead. This one features a “J. DANA/WARRANTED” marked lock and the interior of the brass patchbox is marked “CP/UTICA”. There are several other known examples of Dana locks on Utica guns. Dana locks may have come out of Canton, Massachusetts. This rifle is furnished with a beautiful striped maple stock and double set triggers.
The overall condition is very good. The iron parts retain much of the blue finish. The markings are clear. The maple stock is in fabulous shape. The bore is in very good condition with sharp rifling. The action is excellent.
