VERY Fine BOSTONIAN Antique RICHARDSON Belt Pistol
“BOSTON” Fine Twist Barrel with Ivory Tipped Ramrod
Here we present an antique Richardson Percussion Belt Pistol, made circa 1840, in Boston, Massachusetts. The maker was very likely Joel Richardson, who was active during this time. This pistol was made to be used for self-defense. It would have been worn on the belt, but it is small enough to perhaps be able to put it inside a coat pocket.
This pistol features many refinements to include a fine twist barrel, sharp engraving, and an ivory tipped ramrod. Lock, barrel and trigger guard are all engraved. The lock reads “RICHARDSON” and the top of the barrel reads “BOSTON”. The underside of the barrel is marked “SC”.
The overall condition of this piece is very fine. The barrel retains virtually all original finish with a handsome fine twist pattern. The engraved trigger guard retains almost all original blue finish. The lock still bears a significant amount of finish. The markings on this piece are clear and legible. The walnut stock is solid, with just a chip ahead of the lock. Ivory tipped ramrod is original. Bore is shiny and very good. The action is excellent.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 4-1/8 inches in length.
Caliber: .48 percussion
Bore is in very good condition. The firing mechanism is excellent.
Overall condition as seen in photos.
Here is a very fine and scarce example of a pistol made in Boston.
